Jessica Gal is a 36-year-old native Montrealer of Hungarian / Jewish background, and has lived in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce for most of her life. She graduated from Concordia University in April 2003 with a double major in political science and environmental geography, after four years of study. She is one of the founding members of the present incarnation of the Green Party of Quebec, and in 2003’s provincial elections, obtained the highest percentage of votes in the party as candidate for the riding of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. Since then, she has run twice as the candidate for the Green Party of Canada, always in NDG-Lachine. In 2008, during the last federal elections, she obtained nearly 8% of the vote, the best results to date.

Jessica has been employed at Katimavik, a national youth service organization which has been promoting community volunteerism among Canada’s youth for 30 years, as well as non-profit organizations in the cultural sector (Musique Multi-Montréal and Diversité Artistique Montréal), providing services to artists from Montreal's cultural communities. She is also a professional violinist and former member of the Canadian Armed Forces reserves (1993-97). As the wife and sponsor of a recent immigrant to Canada, she has first-hand experience with immigration issues and the intercultural issues at play in our communities. She plans to continue contributing her efforts as an organizer and candidate for the Green Party of Canada, as this is the only political party she feels has the capacity and integrity to represent the best interests of all Canadians and of future generations.
